Janet Goldner
(see image).
Janet Goldner
first traveled to West Africa in 1973. Since here Fulbright
senior research Fellowship to Mali in 1995, she has been spending
extended periods of time in Mali every year to work on a wide
variety of cultural projects. The combining of Western and
non-Western images and ideas in Janet's sculptural work is a result
of may trips to Africa over the past 37 years, as well as a response
to her own layered American cultural identity. She has
researched the genealogy of her family for many years and has been
an activist for as long as she can
remember.
A long time Tribeca
resident, Janet''s life experiences are the primary research for the
development of my work, giving my work a unique cohesion where
themes recur and overlap, appear and disappear, then reappear in
altered form. She has always been interested in culture and the many
ways that people respond to the riddle of human life on earth.
Janet actively exhibits her steel sculptures, videos and
photographs. She also writes, lectures, teaches and gives
workshops
